I’m one of those people who doesn’t prefer a heavy breakfast. Yet, I know I need to eat something nourishing in the morning to get my metabolism going strong and to energize me for my morning’s work.
Here’s what I’ve discovered works for my body – a smoothie made with whole, organic fruit, homemade almond milk, organic coconut water, nutritional yeast, organic raw cacoa, organic maca, organic hemp protein, organic chia seeds, and organic, raw kale leaves.
My Favorite Morning Smoothie
Here’s my recipe for two people; halve it if you’re not with a friend 😉
1 c homemade, organic almond milk (recipe for that coming up)
1 c organic coconut water
1 c organic blueberries (fresh or frozen)
2/3 c organic other fruit (mixed berries, pineapple, apple, peaches, or whatever’s in season)
2 TBL organic chia seeds
2 scoops organic hemp protein
4 TBL nutritional yeast
1 tsp organic raw cacao powder
1 tsp organic maca powder
4 good-sized organic kale leaves
Throw it all in your favorite high-speed blender (I use a Vita-mix). And voila! Nutritious, delicious fuel for the morning!
Try it, and let me know how it works for you. [Also: learn more about why I choose these ingredients for my morning smoothie!] Or, make up your own smoothie recipe – and share it with us here!
